Joan, Did you get your spine ruled out with a MRI?
I had lower back pain that was referred pain from Piriformis Syndrome and Superior Cluneal Nerve (SCN) Entrapment. How I was diagnosed with SCN was a maricaine nerve block (no steroids). If the block takes away the pain, then surgery with Dr. Tim Tollestrup will be highly successful. Dr. T also perfected the surgery for piriformis syndrome. If you have that and it keeps coming back, the only treatment that worked for me is removing the muscle.

I was misdiagnosed with SI joint problems and was almost fused when it was truly Piriformis Syndrome. I got my muscles (yes, 15 percent of folks who had muscle removal surgery actually have two on one side) removed by Dr. Tim Tollestrup who perfected the surgery for this condition. Best decision I ever made! No movement problems as it is just an assist muscle. Several other muscles do the same job. That little 1" x 2" muscle does more harm than good! The sooner it's removed, the less damage it can do to other nerves.
